[0002]
[0003] OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0004]
[0005] The present invention relates to the technical field of digital printing and more specifically to the methods and systems of digital printing applied to suitcases of rigid or semi-rigid material.
[0006]
[0007] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0008]
[0009] Currently, in the industry you can find suitcases of different qualities, sizes and finishes that offer a huge variety of possibilities to the consumer and adjust to the particular needs of each.
[0010]
[0011] The demands of consumers are increasing and highly changing, attending not only to factors of quality and size, but also to the design and customization possibilities, which play a fundamental role in the choice of one suitcase or another.
[0012]
[0013] The materials that predominate lately refer to those used in completely rigid or semi-rigid suitcases, which provide a certain degree of flexibility, such as ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene), PC (Polycarbonate) or PP (Polypropylene) among others, which provide greater safety of content, and four wheels for greater comfort when traveling. On these materials, it is necessary to include the different colors, designs, brands, prints or customizations required to suit the consumer's taste.
[0014]
[0015] To incorporate a design in a rigid suitcase, either ABS or PC, according to traditional manufacturing systems, the engraving of it on plates is used or molds, which are subsequently applied on a sheet. The sheet is integrated into the surface of the product during the manufacturing process, where it swells and is formed by heat, thus giving rise to the final format of the suitcase.
[0016]
[0017] One of the problems that arise from traditional methods and systems is that it is not possible to ensure homogeneous runs, since when the material swells by heat and deposited on the mold to take shape, and then return to its cold state, it is often Distorts the design. For images of people or characters, for circles, shields or other designs that require precision, this is a problem because distortion is usually considerable and the final effect is not acceptable.
[0018]
[0019] On the other hand, each color that incorporates the design has high costs that, multiplied by an average of about ten colors that each suitcase usually has, makes the average design costs per product very high, regardless of the production quantities that are made. The problem of high costs for each design would not be such if the runs were made for large quantities, but this is not the current reality, so the costs often make it unfeasible to produce designs for small runs.
[0020]
[0021] Another added problem concerns the versatility and flexibility weighed down by the manufacturing deadlines. Traditional methods and systems involve a time of preparation, adjustment and production, for a single sample, which can be around between fifteen days and one month.
[0022]
[0023] In summary, the integration of the design, color, stamping or customization during the manufacturing process of a rigid or semi-rigid suitcase, is a long and expensive process that makes the sector not very versatile in adjusting the designs to the parameters of precision, flexibility , speed, simplicity and cost that is required today, where it is necessary to produce many different designs, short runs and speed, which is lacking in the state of the art to achieve a unique and personalized product.
[0024] DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0025] In order to achieve the objectives and avoid the aforementioned drawbacks, the present invention describes, in a first aspect, a system for stamping a rigid suitcase comprising:
[0026] - printing means configured to stamp an ink print in a print area of a single determined printing plane;
[0027] - height adjustment means, coupled to the printing means, configured to regulate the height of the printing means and the height of the single printing plane;
[0028] - support means;
[0029] - leveling means, attachable on the support means, configured to receive one or more suitcases on at least one of their faces, such that the surface of the opposite side of each suitcase is leveled in the single printing plane; Y
[0030] - displacement means, configured to match the printing area with the bags arranged on the leveling means.
[0031]
[0032] In one of the embodiments of the invention, the support means are fixed and the displacement means are arranged in the printing means, configured to move the printing means over the support means. Thus, advantageously, once the suitcases have been placed on the molds, they do not need to move.
[0033]
[0034] In one of the embodiments of the invention, the printing means are fixed and the displacement means comprise a conveyor belt disposed in the support means, configured to move the luggage under the printing means. Thus, advantageously, a continuous feeding of bags can be carried out at one end of the work table while at the other end the bags are stamped as the conveyor belt moves them under the printheads and the printing area matches the outer side of the suitcase to print.
[0035]
[0036] Optionally, it is contemplated to provide the printing media with an ultraviolet ink and, in addition, curing means are provided in the system configured for Illuminate, dry and fix the design in the printing area where the print has been stamped.
[0037]
[0038] According to one of the particular embodiments of the invention, the leveling means contemplate a male mold that reproduces the inner contour of the suitcase, where the male mold comprises a first body configured to receive the inner face of the front part of the suitcase and a second body configured to receive the inner face of the back of the suitcase, so that, in a completely open position of the suitcase, the front and rear outer faces are leveled in the single printing plane and facing the media of impression. Thus, advantageously, the suitcases are coupled and leveled thanks to the perfect coincidence between the relief of the suitcase itself and that of the male mold.
[0039]
[0040] According to one of the embodiments of the invention, the leveling means comprise a female mold that reproduces the contour of the outer surface of at least one of the sides of the suitcase, configured to receive the suitcase, in a closed position, by said side of the suitcase, so that the opposite side is leveled in the single printing plane and facing the printing means. Thus, advantageously, the suitcases are coupled and leveled thanks to the tray-like form of the mold.
[0041]
[0042] Additionally, the leveling means can comprise in its lower part a wedge element configured to compensate for an unevenness between the upper zone and the lower zone of the suitcase. Thus, advantageously, the total compensation can be divided between two elements to ensure greater accuracy, so that, on the one hand, the mold makes sure to adjust to the height of the printing plane and, on the other hand, the wedge element ensures offsetting the difference between the top and bottom of one of the major sides of the suitcase when it is in a lying position on a horizontal surface, resting on the opposite major side.
[0043]
[0044] Additionally, in one of the embodiments of the invention, a scanner configured to scan the inner and outer contour of the suitcase is contemplated; a processor configured to receive information from the scanner and determine the dimensions of the mold to be produced, based on the distance between the single printing plane and the support means; Y a three-dimensional printer or a machining station under computer numerical control (CNC) configured to produce the mold determined by the processor.
[0045] The height adjustment means, in a particular embodiment of the invention, move the printing means with respect to the support means to a distance greater than or equal to 35 centimeters.
[0046]
[0047] A second aspect of the invention relates to a method for stamping a rigid suitcase comprising the steps of: obtaining leveling means attachable to at least one of the faces of the rigid suitcase; arrange leveling means on support means; arrange the rigid suitcase, on at least one of its faces, on the leveling means, so that the opposite side is leveled in a single printing plane; regulate the height of printing means, configured to stamp an ink print on a printing area of the single printing plane, to provide a distance between the support means and the printing means greater than or equal to the height of the suitcase arranged on the leveling means; match, by means of displacement, the printing area of the single printing plane with the opposite side of the suitcase arranged on the leveling means; and stamping, by means of printing, the printing of ink on the rigid suitcase.
[0048]
[0049] Additionally, one of the embodiments also includes: scanning the inner and outer contour of the suitcase and sending the obtained images to a processor; determine, by the processor, the dimensions of the mold to be produced according to the images sent and the distance between the support means and the printing plane; and send instructions from the processor to a 3D printer or a CNC machining station to create the mold.
[0050]
[0051] Obtaining leveling means comprises, according to one of the embodiments of the invention, obtaining a male mold that reproduces the inner contour of the suitcase, where the male mold comprises a first body configured to receive the inner face of the front part of the suitcase and a second body configured to receive the inner face of the back of the suitcase, so that, in a completely open position of the suitcase, the front and rear outer faces are leveled in the single printing plane and facing print media
[0052] Obtaining leveling means comprises, according to one of the embodiments of the invention, obtaining a female mold that reproduces the contour of the outer surface of at least one of the sides of the suitcase, configured to receive the suitcase, in a closed position, on said side of the suitcase, so that the opposite side is leveled in the single printing plane and facing the printing means.
[0053]
[0054] One of the embodiments of the invention further comprises the steps of: detecting a level difference between an upper end of the suitcase and a lower end, in a lying position of the suitcase; obtain a wedge element configured to compensate for the level difference detected; and arranging the wedge element between the support means and the leveling means.
[0055]
[0056] In a particular embodiment of the present invention, it is contemplated to stamp the ink print with an ultraviolet ink and subsequently a curing process with ultraviolet light.
[0057]
[0058] Optionally, in one of the embodiments of the invention, it is contemplated to apply a plastic protective layer on the stamping of the rigid suitcase.
[0059]
[0060] According to all the above characteristics, the present invention offers a multitude of advantages and benefits to the state of the art, which for example allow the printing of fair and necessary quantities to meet the market demand as generated and with hardly any margin for error, Customization of designs (including a single unit), exclusive runs, limited editions, stock on sale, (that is, presenting a large number of options without minimum production), low cost, speed in the printing process making it virtually instantaneous, perfect reproduction and definition of designs or images and the possibility of application on any type of rigid suitcase, made in any material.
[0061] In short, this new system of printing suitcases is a great advantage for the consumer and gives the industry multiple options to meet the specific needs of the market.
[0062]

[0075]
[0076] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0077] The present invention discloses a method and system for stamping different designs on the outer faces of a rigid or semi-rigid suitcase. Advantageously, by independentizing the manufacturing and decoration processes of the suitcases, great flexibility and adaptability of the stocks is achieved.
[0078] The method and stamping system of the present invention, uses digital printing by inkjet of decorative motifs, custom designs or any high precision stamping on any surface of a rigid or semi-rigid suitcase, including the telescopic handles of the suitcases of trolley type, providing the surfaces to be printed on a single printing plane.
[0079]
[0080] The head, or heads in the case of multi-head printers, always works in a printing plane located at a fixed printing distance, so that irregularities in the levels of a suitcase (and the consequent unwanted dispersion of the design), are avoided by The present invention, thanks to the leveling method and means, which, when fully designed according to the contour of the suitcase, allows compensation of any unevenness by means of a specific mold for each suitcase model.
[0081]
[0082] In one embodiment of the invention, the customized digital printing method and system for suitcases of the present invention applies the product design at a later stage to the manufacture of the suitcase. Thus, on the already manufactured suitcase, the design is applied by means of a digital print with all the richness of color and desired definition, even real photographic images, faces of people, characters, shields, circles or any graphic element can be reproduced without any type of distortion, since the characteristics of the printing do not suffer distortion on the materials commonly used in the manufacture of rigid or semi-rigid suitcases.
[0083]
[0084] The digital printing used by the present invention preferably uses ultraviolet ink of high density and good flexibility. For example, Roland brand ECO-UV ink has been used as an example of use and the results are excellent. It has a high print density in a wide range of colors, dries quickly and is a flexible ink which allows it to adapt perfectly to the material when it is folded or stretched without breaking or cracking, which makes the printing suitable on suitcases rigid or semi-rigid. Of course other inks with similar characteristics could be used equally.
[0085] The printing area can be configured using the printer software to have any dimensions. Obviously, it will always be limited by the printing plane and that physically has to be placed perpendicularly under the printer head. With this in mind, the present invention can define a printing area that encompasses the entire front surface and also the entire rear surface of the suitcases, in addition to customizing other areas such as the bars of the handles of the trolley suitcases.
[0086]
[0087] Next, following the figures provided, the specific solutions of the present invention that overcome the limitations and problems of the state of the art mentioned above are shown, mainly referring to the dimensions of the suitcases (11), which does not make them suitable for being inserted into a standard digital printer (12) due to head heights (13), as shown in Figure 1A ; and the need to print on a completely flat rigid or semi-rigid surface without unevenness.
[0088]
[0089] Figure 1B shows the printing machine used by the present invention in one of its embodiments, where a print head (14) has been modified, which started from a standard height (100) of 20 cm with respect to the support means ( 15), to provide a greater height (101) giving it an additional 15 centimeters. Thus, the machine (16) is capable of printing from 15 centimeters, therefore the suitcases, both open and closed, of heights between 15 cm and 35 cm centimeters that are the minimum necessary can be printed. For this, height-adjustable means are arranged which, specifically in one of the embodiments, consist of height-adjustable side pieces (17), for example by means of a hinged mechanism, which are coupled in the guide grooves on the side of the table of work that allow the horizontal displacement of the printhead. In other embodiments, the height-adjustable means consist of two telescopic side pieces that allow the machine to be lifted. The side pieces may comprise hydraulic, pneumatic, crank lifts or any other lifting mechanism. Obviously, the above measures are provided by way of example and in other embodiments these measures vary, but are always established according to the measurements of the suitcases.
[0090]
[0091]
[0092] In one of the embodiments, the regulation is carried out only the first time, keeping it fixed forward without the possibility of modifying the height initially regulated by means of fixed length hikes.
[0093]
[0094] Rigid or semi-rigid suitcases usually have small slopes between one side and the other, on the same surface or between the top and bottom. In addition, if the open position of the suitcase is taken into account (that is, the fully open separation zipper and both halves forming a 180 degree angle to each other) on the support means of the printing machine, the two surfaces of Printing usually has a difference between them that compromises the quality of digital printing. If the suitcases are closed on the support means of the printing machine, there is also an unevenness between the top and bottom of the surface to be printed on the suitcase. Therefore, either in an open position or in a closed position, digital printing is not optimal as long as these unevennesses do not allow the printing of ink in a uniform way, since the design is blurred and therefore not suitable.
[0095]
[0096] The present invention levels the bags by means of leveling means where the bags will be located later. For them, molds adapted to each suitcase model are designed that correct the unevenness caused between one body and another of the suitcase, as well as the unevenness that occurs between the top and bottom of the same body of the suitcase.
[0097]
[0098] A suitcase (11) comprises four smaller faces and two larger faces that are usually identified as front face (20) and rear face (21). The front face and the back face are part of the front and back of the suitcase respectively, which are usually separated by means of union of the zipper type, although there are also others of the lever or latch type, which delimit two usually different interior volumes each. The four minor faces, however, are each divided by the joining means, so that each of the four minor faces is divided between the front and the back of the suitcase. In addition, one of the smaller faces of the suitcase is the base (22), in which they can 2 or 4 wheels (23) and on the opposite side of the base, or upper face (24), a handle or, by means of a recess, a handle with telescopic bars (25) can be arranged as in the so-called trolley cases.
[0099]
[0100] The present invention relates in all the embodiments described herein to the lying position of the suitcases, that is, supported on one of its major sides, for the printing of precisely said major sides, which are the most common areas of stamping, but of In a similar way, it can be applied to the stamping of suitcases by their smaller sides by manufacturing a female mold configured to receive the suitcase closed by one of its smaller sides.
[0101]
[0102] Figure 2A shows one of the embodiments of the invention in which the unwanted slopes are compensated by means of male molds (26) that reproduce exactly the inner contour of the suitcases in the open position. The molds are placed on support means, for example a work table (27), to then receive the bags on them.
[0103]
[0104] The molds are made specifically for each of the models and measures of suitcase, so that the open suitcase is located (28) on the mold adjusting perfectly. The molds can have a rigid and flat support (29) in its lower part, which facilitates the fitting of different molds in the same worktable as a puzzle, while its upper part comprises two bodies, a first body (291) which simulates the volume of the space that occupies half of the suitcase corresponding to the front and a second body (292) that simulates the volume of the space that occupies half of the suitcase corresponding to the rear of the suitcase in the open position.
[0105]
[0106] Each of the two bodies of a mold has a height determined by the height of the printing plane. In order to keep the two outer sides of the suitcase fully level in the same plane, coinciding with the printing plane (293) when placed under the printing means, the volume of each of the two mold bodies is adjusted, in addition to the interior contour of the suitcase, at the pre-established height of the plane of printing with respect to the support means. Thus the mold corrects all the mismatches and unevenness that the suitcase can present, giving it the stability and leveling that the printing machine requires for a perfect impression of the design on the surfaces. In this way you can print and customize the suitcase without any problem, regardless of whether both sides are not exactly equal in height or have, for example, some pyramidal shape that uneven the surface.
[0107]
[0108] Figure 2B shows a worktable (27) as support means, in which a plurality of molds (26) have been arranged, as many as open suitcases fit on said table. The digital printer (294) used as print media is arranged at one end of the worktable, where the printhead or printheads are ready to be moved, thanks to the installed travel means, by an operator or automatically , along the worktable and cover all surfaces that have been arranged in the printing plane.
[0109]
[0110] Figure 2C shows the same configuration of Figure 2B, but now the molds (26) have already been covered by the corresponding suitcases (11), where they all present their outer faces homogeneously in the same plane (293) coinciding with the plane of impression. In this arrangement, the digital printer (294) will be able to print, at once, the front face and the back side of several suitcases (with the same design or several different at the same time), allowing the ink to be perfectly fixed on the surface of the suitcase. The matching of the suitcases and the printing area is carried out by moving the printer, thanks to means of displacement installed on its sides such as a wheel system or a guide system with at least one horizontal rail (295) arranged in one of the sides of the worktable. In another embodiment of the invention, in which the printer is arranged in a central position on the worktable, the matching of the cases to be stamped and the printing area is achieved by moving the molds on the worktable thanks to a conveyor belt.
[0111]
[0112] This system of molds on the printing surface for the printing of suitcases also facilitates the work of the operator, always giving an accurate view of the "zero point" of
[0113]
[0114]
[0115] Printing of each suitcase model, eliminating any margin of error and providing maximum accuracy in the design location on the product.
[0116]
[0117] Figure 3A shows an embodiment of the invention, which can be combined with the previous one, in which the unwanted unevennesses are compensated by tray-type female molds (30), which reproduce exactly the outer contour of the suitcases in the closed position. The molds are placed on support means, for example a work table (27), to then receive the bags on them.
[0118]
[0119] The molds are made specifically for each of the models and measures of suitcase, so that the closed suitcase is located (31) on the mold adjusting perfectly. The molds can have a rigid and flat support (32) in its lower part, while its upper part comprises two bodies, a first body (33) that adapt to the contour of the outer surface of the front face of the suitcase and a second body (34) that adapts to the contour of the outer surface of the rear face of the suitcase.
[0120]
[0121] Each of the two bodies of a mold has a height determined by the height of the printing plane (293). In order to keep the two outer sides of the suitcase fully level in the same plane (35), coinciding with the printing plane when placed under the printing means, the volume of each of the two mold bodies is adjusted, in addition to the outer contour of the outer faces of the suitcase, at the pre-established height of the printing plane with respect to the support means.
[0122]
[0123] In this configuration, each mold contains two bodies (33, 34) for the same suitcase model and allows simultaneous printing of the front and back of the same suitcase model, with the same or different designs. To print the same suitcase For the back and the front it is necessary to make two prints. A first impression on the front face of the suitcase, with the suitcase attached to the mold body adapted to the rear face of the suitcase, and a second impression on the rear face of the suitcase, with the suitcase attached to the mold body adapted to the front face of the suitcase.
[0124]
[0125] Figure 3B shows a worktable (27) as support means, in which a plurality of molds (30) have been arranged, as many as fit in said table taking into account that each mold can receive two suitcases. The digital printer (294) used as print media is arranged at one end of the worktable, where the printhead or printheads are ready to be moved, thanks to the installed travel means, by an operator or automatically , along the worktable and cover all surfaces that have been arranged in the printing plane.
[0126]
[0127] Figure 3C shows the same configuration of Figure 3B, but now the suitcases (11) have already been deposited on their corresponding molds (30), which present the necessary inclinations to adjust the unevenness that the suitcase presents in its closed version, so that all the faces opposite to those deposited on the molds are homogeneously leveled in the same plane (35) coinciding with the printing plane (293). In this arrangement, the digital printer (294) will be able to print, at once, the front and the back of several suitcases (with the same design or several different at the same time), allowing the ink to be perfectly fixed on The surface of the suitcase. The matching of the suitcases and the printing area is carried out by moving the printer, thanks to means of movement installed on its sides such as a wheel system or a guide system with at least one horizontal rail (395) arranged in one of the sides of the worktable. In another embodiment of the invention, in which the printer is arranged in a central position on the worktable, the matching of the cases to be stamped and the printing area is achieved by moving the molds on the worktable thanks to a conveyor belt.
[0128]
[0129]
[0130] This system of molds on the printing surface for the printing of suitcases also facilitates the work of the operator, always giving an exact view of the "zero point" of printing of each suitcase model, eliminating any margin of error and providing maximum accuracy in the location of the design on the product.
[0131]
[0132] Figures 4A and 4B show different embodiments of the invention that contemplate the printing by digital printing of the telescopic bar area (25) of a trolley-type suitcase. For this, the trolley suitcase is arranged in a mold, either a male mold (hidden in the figure by the suitcase) as in Figure 4A or a female mold (41) as in Figure 4B , lying down, of so that the telescopic bars are level in the printing plane (293).
[0133]
[0134] Once the ink print has been stamped on the chosen surface of the suitcase, the print is immediately cured by lighting the printing area with ultraviolet light. In this way, when using ultraviolet ink, such as Roland manufacturer's ECO-UV ink, the fixation and durability of the stamping on the suitcase is guaranteed.
[0135]
[0136] It is common for rigid or semi-rigid suitcases to be designed in a slightly pyramidal manner, which causes one of the outer faces of the suitcase, lying down, supporting the opposite face on a horizontal surface, is not level according to said horizontal surface , but from the bottom to the suitcase (the end where the wheels are located) to the top of the suitcase (the end where one of the handles is located), a downward inclination appears.
[0137]
[0138] To compensate for the inclination between the top and bottom of the suitcase, the present invention contemplates at least two solutions. One of them is to take it into account directly in the manufacture of the mold and provide said mold with the reverse inclination. Alternatively, in another embodiment of the invention, the leveling means comprise in its lower part a wedge element configured to compensate for the unevenness between the upper zone and the lower zone of the suitcase. Thus, the mold can be manufactured based exclusively on the contour (inside or outside, depending on whether a
[0139]
[0140]
[0141] male or female mold respectively) and subsequently include under the base of the mold the wedge element to compensate only the inclination between the top and bottom of the major sides of the suitcase.
[0142]
[0143] The molds of the present invention can be made according to different techniques that allow the inner and / or outer contour of the sides of the suitcase to be reproduced as accurately as possible. The process can be done by hand, carving, sculpting, attaching removable parts on base molds or by scanning and 3D printing or molded into or a CNC machining station.
[0144]
[0145] The method of manufacturing the molds of the present invention, according to one of the embodiments, comprises a scanning stage where the inner and outer contour of the suitcase is scanned by means of a scanner or some equivalent means. The 3D images obtained by the scanner are sent to a processor that can be included in a general purpose computer, in which the dimensions of the mold to be produced are subsequently determined. The printer configuration information (such as the distance from the printing plane) and the spatial scene formed by the printer heads together with the support media, are entered into the processor as input data so that it can be determined with the as accurate as possible the dimensions of the mold taking into account not only the 3D images sent, but also the distance between the support means and the printing plane, which will determine the height of the mold. The instructions and manufacturing parameters are sent from the processor to a 3D printer or a CNC machining station, to create the mold and finally, the printer software processes the instructions received and manufactures the mold.
[0146]
[0147] The molds of the present invention can be manufactured in different materials. In one of the embodiments, they are made of thermoplastic materials, but their manufacture in aluminum, silicone, polystyrene, clay, wood, polyurethane rubber, polyurethane resin, foam, plaster or any other material that adapts to the manufacturing method is also contemplated. selected.
[0148] The present invention should not be limited to the embodiment described herein. Other configurations may be made by those skilled in the art in view of the present description. Accordingly, the scope of the invention is defined by the following claims.
